In addition, we offer many different optional activities to suit your interests, such as guided walks, visits to historical sites, cultural encounters with local tribes, and participation in a variety of conservation activities. Restoration Safaris carefully prepares each itinerary to suit your needs, desires, fitness level and budget. The following are sample itineraries that demonstrate the kinds of safari package we can create for you.

The Classic Safari

Tarangire, Ngorongoro, Serengeti and Lake Manyara
This is the classic safari package that takes in Tanzania's most famous parks. Opportunities for great wildlife sightings and spectacular scenery abound!

Days 1 & 2 - Setting off from Arusha with your driver/guide, you will head for Tarangire National Park, with a stop for lunch on the way. This park is renowned for its elephants, giant baobab trees, and the Tarangire River that sustains the great variety of wildlife here. Two nights' accommodation inside the park will provide ample time for exploration.

Days 3 & 4 - After breakfast, you will be driven into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a region rich with wildlife sightings, impressive views and stunning scenery. You will check in at your lodge and enjoy lunch, and then with your driver/guide descend into the famed Ngorongoro Crater. The size of the crater means that game viewings are certain, and two nights accommodation provide multiple opportunities to explore the entire crater floor.

Days 5, 6 & 7 - You will depart after breakfast, continuing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. There will be a stop along the way at Olduvai Gorge, which has been christened the "Cradle of Mankind," and also offers stunning scenery. However, your destination is the Serengeti National Park. With three nights accommodation here, you will have plenty of time to explore the endless plains of the Serengeti. Your options will include half-day or full-day game drives, a hot air balloon ride with champagne breakfast, and if the timing is right, you may encounter the spectacular annual wildebeest migration.

Days 8 & 9 - After breakfast, you will head back through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with more wildlife sightings en route, towards your final destination in the bush, Lake Manyara National Park. You will have the option of a night game drive here for a rare view of the nocturnal wildlife in the area, in addition to exploring the park by day. If you're lucky, you may get to see the famous tree-climbing lions, or the uncommon silvery-cheeked hornbill. Your final two nights on safari will be spent at Lake Manyara.

Day 10 - After breakfast, you will slowly make your journey back to Arusha, where your driver/guide will transfer you to your hotel.

The Short & Sweet Safari

Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara
We know that not everyone has the time or budget to do a full safari, taking in all of the national parks. Others may want to consider a mini-safari as an additional activity before or after climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Therefore, we offer a condensed version that allows you to see some of the best wildlife in Tanzania in just 4 days and 3 nights.

Day 1 - This journey begins after an early breakfast in Arusha. Along with your driver/guide, you will set off for your Tarangire National Park. Here, you will take lunch overlooking the Tarangire River, and then set out to explore the beautiful scenery, large herds of elephants, and giant baobab trees that this park is known for. After a full afternoon of wildlife viewing, you will be transferred to your in-park accommodation for the night.

Day 2 - After an early breakfast, your driver/guide will take you to Lake Manyara National Park for a full day of game viewing, with a picnic lunch taken in the middle of the day. This park provides opportunities to observe wildlife in a variety of different ecosystems, and if you're lucky, you may get a chance to see the famous tree-climbing lions. As the afternoon draws to a close, you will leave Lake Manyara and be driven to the town of Karatu for two nights' accommodation.

Day 3 - After breakfast, you will drive to Ngorongoro Crater, descending the crater wall with picnic lunches in tow. The various ecosystems within the crater provide home for many different mammals and birds, including the rare black rhino in its natural habitat. As the afternoon sun more lower in the sky, you will ascend the crater wall and return to your lodge for your final night in the bush.

Day 4 - This morning, you will be driven back to Arusha to your hotel, or to the airport for your journey home.

The Green & Active Safari

Arusha National Park, Lake Duluti and West Kilimanjaro
Discover Northern Tanzania the alternative way using some less-polluting forms of transport. We offer an alternative safari package that will see you burning lots of your energy rather than lots of diesel. You don't need to be extremely fit and active to take part in this safari as we will always go at your pace, however fast or slow that might be!

Day 1 - After breakfast at your hotel in Arusha you will be driven to Arusha National Park where you will spend the morning taking a walking safari which will see you climbing up to Miriakamba Camp, the first camp on the way to the summit to Mt Meru. From here you will get magnificent views of Mt. Kilimanjaro. After eating lunch at this viewpoint you will descend back down the mountain and on to the Momella Lakes. Here you will change your mode of transport to kayaks and, accompanied by your guides, you will explore the lakes and get great views of wildlife. You will then be transferred to your accommodation for the night and some much needed rest.

Day 2 - After breakfast we will leave Arusha National Park and start driving to the next adventure. Your next mode of transport is bicycles, and you will spend a half-day exploring the area around Lake Duluti using pedal-power. We will stop for a delicious hot lunch at one of the coffee farms in the area where you can also get a chance to see the coffee production process. In the afternoon we will drive you to your next destination, a private ranch in West Kilimanjaro. This area is a unique success story of land and wildlife rehabilitation and it offers an exclusive opportunity to see wildlife up close and personal. You will arrive in time to have a sundowner from the tree house overlooking the waterhole where much of the wildlife gathers. Your accommodation for the next two nights will be here at this private ranch.

Day 3 - You will spend the full day taking a walking safari to see some of the natural wonders of Tanzania up close. While you are walking you may assist your guide to conduct a wildlife census which will help in the conservation of this area and its species. You also have the option of visiting a Maasai Boma to learn more about the lives of the local people. You also have the chance to make some recycled paper from elephant dung. It's a messy process but the end product is worth it! Elephant dung is abundant in this area so why not put it to good use rather than cutting trees to make new paper, and you can always take some home for your friends and family as a souvenir! After all these activities, you will return to your lodge in West Kilimanjaro to relax and unwind.

Day 4 - After breakfast we will drive to Moshi, in the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Here you will spend the morning helping to plant some trees which will be used to reforest Mt Kilimanjaro, which is an important water catchment area. After lunch we will hike up to Marangu waterfalls for a great view and some relaxation before transferring you back to Arusha.

Restoration of Tanzania's Northern Safari Region
For visitors that want to do more than see Tanzania's natural wonders, we offer several activities that you can get involved in to make a lasting difference in the conservation and restoration of these areas.

Protecting Trees

Many of the areas that you will visit are heavily forested. Sometimes local villagers enter these forests to collect firewood or cut down trees for furniture. To stem this behaviour we plan to increase awareness of the value of forest resources in the surrounding local communities. We also plan to start a tree nursery that can restock the natural forests. We welcome you to come and participate in teaching school children about the need to protect their forests and also to come and help to plant trees. This is a great opportunity to meet Tanzanians, get a first hand view of Tanzania's schools, and leave something behind that will last long after you have returned home.

Environmental Research

In order to best protect the wildlife of East Africa, continuous research into wildlife populations is needed. You can take part in this research by helping trained guides in collecting wildlife census data. If we can keep track of where wildlife populations are at different times of the year, so that we will be better prepared to protect them.

Little Changes That Make BIG Differences

Sometimes it is the small changes that can make a long and lasting difference to the natural environment. Why not have a go at making bio-fuel briquettes from waste vegetation, which can be used in the place of firewood, or making recycled paper from elephant dung? We plan to implement these sustainable practices in local villages surrounding the national parks, and we invite you to come and take part.

Using YOUR Knowledge

Perhaps you have a specific skill that could help the people of East Africa to protect the environment. Maybe you have expertise in solar energy products, are skilled in sustainable farming techniques, or know how to set up small businesses in low income areas. We would love for you to share this knowledge with the local people. Restoration Safaris will facilitate all necessary arrangements, and enable you to leave behind a lasting gift -- the gift of knowledge.

Improving Lives

There are many orphanages in the towns along the safari circuit originating in Arusha. If you are interested in helping to improve the lives of these children through donations, teaching or even just playing, Restoration Safaris can facilitate this. Whether you want to visit for an hour, a day, a week or even longer, we can provide you with an orphanage placement and assist with accommodation.

If you are interested in any of these activities, please let us know so that we can incorporate them into your itinerary.
